BOOK ONE · LESSON 099
Ow!
啊哟!
A dialogue lesson about reporting what someone says. Andy has slipped and fallen downstairs and hurt his back; Lucy tries to help him stand up, but he can't get up, so Lucy phones Dr. Carter, who says he will come at once. Lucy is sure that Andy needs an X-ray. New vocabulary includes ow, slip, fall, downstairs, hurt, back, stand up, help, at once, sure, and X-ray. Workbook practice covers filling in the missing words of the dialogue and matching words into pairs of opposites. Grammar exercises practise reported speech with 'that' (says/thinks/is sure/is sorry/believes/understands/knows), answering 'What's the matter?' using reported-speech clauses, and making sentences with the reported-speech structure 'verb + that + clause'.
