BOOK ONE · LESSON 129
Seventy miles an hour 时速70英里
时速70英里
A dialogue lesson in which a policeman stops a man named Gary for driving too fast. The story introduces the modal verbs for past deduction 'must have been driving' (past continuous) and 'can't have been', and the structure 'you'd better (not) do something' for strong advice. The dialogue runs through Ann warning Gary to drive slowly, the policeman stopping him, Gary claiming he can't have been driving that fast, and the policeman warning him not to do it again. The workbook drills comprehension of the dialogue and vocabulary fill-in; the grammar workbook completes sentences with 'must have' or 'can't have' past forms, agrees with 'you'd better' advice, and completes advice with 'had better'.
