BOOK ONE · LESSON 130
He can't have been... He must have been... 他那时不可能…… 他那时肯定是……
他那时不可能…… 他那时肯定是……
A picture lesson on past deduction: 'can't have been' (negative certainty about the past) and 'must have been' (positive certainty about the past). Eight pictures show deductions about a man's past condition, a hat, a woman's nationality, a man's job, ages, a date, family birth order and what a man was doing. The lesson introduces written exercises on completing sentences with 'had to' or 'must have been', and writing new sentences with 'can't have been' and 'must have been'. The workbook drills choosing the correct form of must / can't and reacting to situations; the grammar workbook rewrites sentences using 'can't have been/done' and 'must have been/done'.
