BOOK ONE · LESSON 133
Sensational news! 爆炸性新闻!
爆炸性新闻!
A dialogue lesson in which a reporter interviews the film star Karen Marsh, who says she has just made a new film but is going to retire because she feels very tired. Kate and Liz then read about the news in a newspaper, and the reporter's account is reported in indirect (reported) speech. The story introduces the structures for reported speech: 'Let's ...', 'She told me she had just made a new film' (tense backshift), and 'I wonder why!'. The workbook drills comprehension of the dialogue and the newspaper article, and choosing between 'told' and 'said'; the grammar workbook changes direct speech into indirect speech.
