BOOK ONE · LESSON 141
Sally's first train ride
萨莉第一次乘火车旅行
A story lesson about Sally's first train ride. Last week, the narrator's four-year-old daughter Sally was invited to a children's party, and the narrator decided to take her by train. Sally was very excited because she had never travelled on a train before. She sat near the window and asked questions about everything she saw. A pretty lady got on the train and sat near Sally, wearing a blue dress and a large, fashionable hat. After the train had reached the next station, the lady opened her handbag and took out her hand mirror. The lesson introduces the past perfect tense ('had never travelled', 'had reached') and the use of 'decided', 'invited', and 'excited'. The workbook drills the story fill-in and vocabulary; the grammar workbook rewrites active sentences into the passive voice (present, past, and future passive), answers questions in the passive, and writes dialogues with 'will be + past participle'.
